In our first visit to the East Coast in almost nine years - and our first to Boston in 16 years - the AIA will host its convention in one of the most dynamic cities in America. And what a perfect place to immerse yourself in this year's theme, We the People, which will explore the power of architecture on behalf of all people and society. It's the right topic for a growing profession that has been challenged to engage the public in designing a more sustainable world.
Design Tools to Optimize the Performance of Green Roofs - Survey

Click here for a survey put together from a group of MBA students from Portland State University in Portland, Oregon. The PSU student team is working alongside a jointly funded research project sponsored by the Ecoworks Foundation, Portland State University, and the City of Portland, Oregon. The overall mission of the project is to develop design tools that can be used to optimize the performance of green roofs; tools that are certainly lacking in the fast growing green roof industry. The data gathered from the survey will be instrumental in assessing the market potential for the final product.

The survey questions do not seek proprietary information, and the responses are returned via an internet based survey company. The students do not ask for, nor will receive personal information of any kind, including e-mail addresses. We appreciate your participation!

A/E Leadership Characteristics: A National Study

Have ideas of "Emotional Intelligence" and "Leadership Style" been mentioned around your office lately? Or perhaps you have been thinking about leading your company to improve upon its best practices. The University of Colorado at Boulder and Virginia Tech are collaborating with the AIA and ACEC on an in-depth research project investigating the leadership attributes of A/E executives. Your assistance is requested to fulfill this study.

Many researchers are discussing the idea that emotional intelligence could be one key to organizational success. For example, a study within the consulting industry found that partners who had high emotional competency produced more profitability than other partners. We would like to extend these ideas into the A/E industry.

You can participate in this study by going here. This website will guide you through a general questionnaire, a leadership questionnaire and an emotional intelligence assessment.

The total time to complete the above requests is approximately one hour, however the information provided will be invaluable for the future of our industry. Individual data will remain anonymous both by name and by company.

Thank you for your time and consideration to participate. Please do not hesitate to contact us if you have any questions, or would like to learn more about this research endeavor.

Sincerely,
